I feel deeply grateful and blessed that music has been a constant presence in my life. My journey began at the age of five when pioneering television host Steve Allen discovered me and invited me to appear on his daytime show..
That led to six years as a regular panelist on NBC’s children’s television program Juvenile Jury, along with records, radio performances, and other television appearances. Music and entertainment were already part of my family’s story. My grandfather, Joe Ward Sr., was a singer and nightclub owner who performed in a vaudeville act with my grandmother, Lilly Rose Ward. My uncle, Sam Ward, was a songwriter and co-writer of the enduring standard Just Say I Love Her.
At the age of eight, I recorded Nuttin’ For Christmas, a song that climbed the charts and has since become a holiday classic.
While studying at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, I won the Schaeffer Beer Talent Contest, which opened the door to a three-decade career as a premier soloist for national television and radio commercials, as well as film projects, including the theme song “Everybody Wants to Live Forever” for the documentary Pumping Iron. Along the way, I had the privilege of collaborating with some of the most talented singers and musicians in the industry and appearing on both daytime and late-night television, including The David Letterman Show.
My passion for creating and producing music continues to this day. Since the pandemic, I’ve experienced a renewed wave of creativity, writing and recording dozens of original songs spanning a variety of musical styles. The joy of making music remains as strong as ever.
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” … Maya Angelou
